Phuket Weekly Car Stereo Meeting a Blast

THAILAND TRAVEL NEWS: If you like your music and cars loud, the weekly car stereo enthusiasts meeting at Sapan Hin just outside of Phuket Town is the perfect place for you.

Between 200 and 300 mobile music aficionados get together each Saturday to admire the handy-work of local car stereo shops, with up to 70 bedecked cars and trucks rolling up each week.

Where-ever you find hot cars, your also find hot girls and it’s not uncommon at this event for foxy looking girls to end up dancing on top of some of the hottest looking mobile music machines imaginable.

The event is organized by a local car stereo fitting company, though customers of other shops were welcome to attend too – t’s a show, not a competition.

Supporting the theory that loud, flashy, or sporty cars are driven mostly by middle-aged men [having a midlife crisis], Somyot of Sapam Sound said this was largely the case.

While the average cost of car stereo systems ranges from Bt50,000 to Bt150,00 (about$US1,400 to $US4,400), “some customers pay up to Bt600,000 (about$US 17,600) for a car sound system,” he said.

At these sorts of costs, is not surprising that the majority of owners fall into the age group they do.

Residents and tourists alike are welcome to attend the weekly events, which get underway around 9pm and often go though to the early hours of the morning.
