THAILAND TRAVEL NEWS: Malaysian based discount airline AirAsia is giving away one million free seats between November 11 and 15, 2009.

The free tickets are available for all 130 routes covering 20 countries the airline and it’s subsidiaries, AirAsia X, Thai AirAsia and Indonesia AirAsia, fly to.

The free tickets are for travel between May 1 and October 30 next year and include destinations in China, India, Taiwan, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and many more.

Kathleen Tan, AirAsia’s regional head of commercial, said, “this is the biggest and most exciting promotion of the year. With no fuel surcharge, and no administration fee, it’s a real deal, offering fantastic value to our guests.”

The promotional tickets mean that people can fly from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok, Jakarta, Bali Phuket and Tianjin for as little as RM25 (about $US7.40), or further afield to Abu Dhabi or Chengdu for as little as RM99 (about $29).

The free ticket give-away even covers the so-called “kangaroo route” to Australia, with the cost of fees and taxes making the route as low as RM149 (about $44), while travel to London can be got for as little as RM499 (about $148).

The seats are available on a first-come, first -served basis, with limited free tickets available for each flight.

Established in 1993, AirAsia and its subsidiaries currently operate a predominantly Airbus fleet of jet aircraft with a total fleet size of 78 aircraft and 144 more ordered for delivery by 2016. By May 2008, the airline had flown 55 million passengers.
