To witness to wonders of Akha, you are welcome to attend the upcoming annual light and sound show presentation that will exhibit the exotic culture and lifestyle of Akha hill tribes. Since 1999, the show takes place annual from January to April – with one presentation per one month.
The actors in this multi-media performance are the hill tribe people from the area. The show is intended to combine education and entertainment from a group of people dedicated to preserving the Akha way of life.
Akha is a hill tribe minor population indigenous to the north of Thailand, Myanmar, Loas and China. Akha is one of the six main hill tribes in Thailand with 80,000 Akha people residing at higher altitudes villages in the northern part of Thailand. The Akha generally live in bamboo huts which are partitioned into two sides: one is for women and another is for men and used as public area.
The majority of Akha population lives in Mae Salong sub-district, Chiang Rai where they make a living from of agriculture, handicrafts industry, and hunting. The Akha have unique tribal costumes and some of their traditional ceremonies can be described as Animistic; believing in spirits which have influence on the natural world.
In 2009, the final sessions of Akha Hill Tribe Mini Light and Sound Presentation will be staged on 11 April, at Chiang Rai Social Development Centre 12 on Doi Mae Salong Road in Pa Sang Sub-District of Mae Chan.
The center will also offer an opportunity to learn about the Ahka traditional lifestyle including tours of the village and informational sessions with village elders… this is a great way to gain some insight into hill tribe culture.
