More than 300 of the world’s top surfers are expected for the five-day Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition 2010 at Kata Beach, Phuket later this month.

Renowned as the best surfing beach on the island province, the second annual Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition will comprise three divisions of competition – men’s open shortboard, women’s open shortboard, and long board open – with a total prize purse of Bt240,000 (about $US7,697) up for grabs.

Endorsed by the the International Surfing Association (ISA), last years event attracted over 100 surfers from Thailand, Australia, Japan, France, South Africa, Indonesia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore for the two day Island Crown event, with this years competition extended by three days with a range of entertainment events and activities aimed at surfers and non-surfers alike being added.

In addition to the on-water action, competitors and spectators will be able to join in concerts, parties, cultural shows, awareness presentations, and surf instruction clinics on the beach, in addition to a fashion show and beach party.

Supported by both government and public sector organizations, the Quiksilver Thailand Surf Competition 2010 will provide local Thai surfers the opportunity to gain valuable experience competing at an international level, in addition to getting them familiar with the rules and regulations of ISA sanctioned events opening the door to competing in ISA competitions held around the world.
