Phuket Film Festival 2009

Film-lovers are in for a treat as we all anticipate the 2nd Phuket Film Festival – 2009 (to take place from June 4 to 11, 2009) as a follow-up to the very successful 2007 Phuket Festival.  The June timing is very strategic in that it allows film-makers an opportunity to visit Thailand right after the renowned Festival des Cannes and right before the Shanghai International Film Festival.

The 2009 Phuket Film Festival expects to see entries of over 50 films from about 20 countries.  The themes will trend towards fun, light and family-oriented though a full list of films is not expected to be disclosed until late April.

Movies will be arranged under categories of “Slice of Life,” Water,” The World around Us,” and “Alternative Lifestyle” and will include mainly documentaries and short films. To further the enjoyment for visitors, the festival also features workshops on film preservation, children’s animation, award ceremonies, and a gala event.

The large number of guests (expected to be over 3,000) at this year’s annual Phuket Film festival will help support the festival objectives for drawing attention to the film production industry, nurture the Thailand film industry, and provide exposure for local film makers.  The event will also help promote Phuket tourism and is a valuable contribution towards Thailand’s economic and tourism recovery.

Date: June 4 – 11, 2009
Venue: Coliseum Theaters in Phuket Town
