THAILAND TRAVEL NEWS: The Isaan (Esarn, Issan) region in the northeast of Thailand is well known for the vast range of handicrafts produced by its inhabitants.

Residents and visitors of and to the seaside city of Pattaya will have the ability to gain a first-hand exposure to the talented artisans of Isaan (Esarn) when the city hosts the Best of Esarn 2009 festival between December 18 and 20.

The festival will feature products produced in the region under the One Town One Product (OTOP) scheme initiated by former Thailand prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to help alleviate rural poverty, including hand-woven silk, handicrafts, jewellery, and farm-fresh products.

The Best of Esarn 2009 festival is organised by Pattaya City Hall and the Esarn Association of Pattaya to promote Pattaya as a tourist destination with Esarn people, as well as to highlight the skills and wide range of goods and produce that the people of Isaan (Esarn) contribute to the Thai economy.

Amongst the items on show and available for purchase will be hand-woven silk products, weaving demonstrations, hand-made jewellery, fresh farm produce, traditional dancing and musical performances and loads of Isaan (Esarn) traditional food.

The Best of Esarn 2009 festival will take place at Bali Hai Point in South Pattaya.
