The Bangkok Post has reported that the state of emergency imposed by former Thai prime minister Samak Sundaravej 12 days ago for Bangkok has been lifted.
At a press conference this morning, Sunday, September 14, 2008, acting prime minister Somchai Wongsawat and Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, General Anupong Paojinda, said that while protesters still occupied the grounds of Government House the political situation was under control and there was no need for the state of emergency declaration to remain in force.
Both agreed the state of emergency was merely damaging the country.
