Despite being relatively modern, Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri Temple is truly worth a visit due to its outstanding myriad of cultural and architectural features.

Situated only three kilometers from Den Chai district or two kilometers from the city of Phrae, this two-decade monastery is well known for the ample sights to see – all of which are built in a mixture of Lanna, Burmese, Laotian and Xishuangbanna style.

The Ubosot (the main building in a temple complex) is incomparably magnificent with a dazzling gold-plated Buddha image and Lanna-style fine paintings which depict Buddhism stories on its walls.

It is also surrounded by Deva statues and two giant statues by the gate.  Another sight that should be highlighted is the beautiful 22-meter-high golden Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri Pagoda which houses a relic of Buddha.

Wat Phra That Suthon Mongkhon Khiri Temple is also home to one of the largest reclining Buddha statues, Phra Buddha Sai Yat, which style is greatly influenced by Burmese Buddhism. The statue is 89 meters in length.

On exhibit are also lacquerware, Lanna musical instruments, ancient weapons and pictures depicting past events.
