Chiang Mai prides itself on its natural beauty – especially during winter when the weather is cool and fresh and colorful arrays of flowers are blooming in every nook and corner of the city aptly nicknamed “The Rose of The North”.
Since 1997, one of Thailand’s most amazing and beautiful events has taken place here in Chiang Mai with the annual Flower Festival.
Held in the first week of February for three days, the event attracts thousands of local residents, people from surrounding regions, as well as foreigners.
The 34th Chiang Mai Flower Festival 2010 will be held on 5th-7th February at Suan Buak Hart Park in the old city, surrounded by its historic moats.
Throughout the three days of the 2010 Chiang Mai Flower Festival visitors will be amazed with the range of flowers on display, including hundreds of orchid varieties, miniature plants, as well as sophisticated flower display settings on mini-waterfalls.
The dazzling Chiang Mai Flower Festival flower parade will be held on the second day of the festival when the city is drenched with brilliant hues of a vast variety of flowers.
Starting at 9.00am, the parade will feature magnificent flower covered floats adorned with tens of thousands of flowers, lovely women donned in traditional Lanna costumes, and hill tribe people in their traditional dress.
The parade will form up between the train station and Naowarat bridge before it moves along the Tha Pae road and ends up at Buak Hart Park. The parade will move slowly and take several stops so it is easy for people to get a good view of the floral delights and take photographs (bring lots of extra film).
In the evening the Flower Festival beauty pageant will be staged in Suan Buak Hart Park, which will be the central festival location, and the Queen of the Flower Festival will be chosen.
For those who would like to purchase some of the beautiful flower species being exhibited there are numerous award winning growers’ booths selling many of the plant varieties featured in the parade.
