For Mam. Enjoy your trip sweet lady…
As one of the areas hardest affected by the 2004 tsunami, Khao Lak beach in Phang Nga province on the west coast in Southern Thailand (just north of Phuket) has nearly completely recovered from damages and continues to become increasingly popular among tourists. Only 80 kilometers from the Phuket International Airport, this fantastic coastal area is a peaceful paradise featuring many stunning beaches and breathtaking scenery that is unmatched anywhere in Thailand. Expansive blue skies, sheer cliff walls, and swaying tropical vegetation resonated in the embrace of the sun and the gentle sea breeze. This is truly a tropical paradise.
Considered by many to be the perfect paradise that Phuket strives to be, Khao Lak beach is tucked among many spectacular beaches in the Thakua Pa district and is the most famous among its neighbors. Khao Lak beach is distinguished by many local Thai people who lend the name “The Gem of Phang Nga” and regard Khao Lak as the country’s ultimate hideaway, gloriously isolated in the midst of the finest coastal scenery and jungle-covered mountains.
Khao Lak has long white beaches peacefully nestled in an immaculate natural setting, devoid of noises or urban nuisances. Unlike most of tourist-crowded beaches and islands, Khao Lak does not promote bars, nightclubs or other entertainment venues and offers utmost serenity instead. Khao Lak beach is therefore ideally suited for honeymooners and couples who seek tranquility and a romantic getaway.
Apart from the impeccable beaches, Khao Lak serves nature loving adventurers worldwide with its ample marine life and very delightful underwater scenes of corals and exotic marine species, cliffside caverns, waterfalls, and natural seaside evergreen forests. In addition to the diverse seaside landscapes, Khao Lak also features inshore and mangrove forests which profer an array of lush, exotic vegetation.
You may spend your day canoeing through the fertile mangrove forest to witness the wonderful Sai Roong Waterfall or experience a soothing bamboo-rafting trip along the crystal clear rivers in Khao Lak National Park. Another highlight that must not be missed is elephant trekking in the forested area of Khao Lak National Park – rest assured that the elephants are very friendly and well trained. They will carry you through the less-traveled jungles and, by the end of the trek, escort you to the waterfall where you will be free to take a refreshing dip in the water.
Khao Lak also offers convenient access to other reknowned destinations such as the Similan Islands and Surin Islands, which are globally recognized areas for snorkeling enthusiasts. Diving in this area offers world-class shallow coral reefs and you might also be fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of (or even swim along with) sea turtles, Manta Rays (the world’s biggest ray) and whale sharks. The Coral Peninsular also features wonderful above sea-level coral debris and is a very well known haven for bird watchers.
Khao Lak and area offer beauty, adventure, and relaxation to make your vacation complete. Khao Lak is easily accessible, including easy access to Phuket International Airport and also by bus from Phang Nga or from Surat Thani. In any event the trip will be well worth the rewards as you explore one of the most beautiful and diverse areas in all of Thailand. Enjoy your trip (Mam ja)!
