Northeast Thailand (Isaan)

Isaan is the northeastern region of Thailand. It is the largest region of Thailand which is located on the Khorat Plateau, bordered to Laos by the Mekong River and to the north and east, by Cambodia to the southeast and the Prachinburi mountains south of Nakhon Ratchasima.  To the west, it is separated from Northern and Central Thailand by the Phetchabun mountain range.
The main spoken language of the region is Isaan, which is a Thai language dialect strongly influenced by Lao language.  Northeastern Thailand is prominent in unique cultures which include the indigenous form of folk music, silk weaving, Muay Thai (Thai boxing), and Isaan food, in which sticky rice and chilies are staple components.
